A utility firm is creating 30 jobs at a new Leicester office.

Yü Energy, which supplies gas and electricity to business customers, is planning to open the new office in the next couple of months.

The Nottingham business is moving here as part of its ambitious growth plans which has seen it grow to a team of 100-plus, and an estimated turnover of more than £40 million for 2017.

Two years ago it had 60 staff and a turnover of £4 million.

It now supplies thousands of businesses across the UK, with “excellent service” and “competitive” fixed energy prices.

The new office will allow the business to expand its sales team, and it will be recruiting for staff over the next few months.

The Leicester location will initially be based within the Regus serviced offices in St George’s House near Leicester train station.

The plan is to move into permanent premises in 2019, when Yü said even more jobs could be created.

The office will complement Yü Energy’s existing Nottingham headquarters from which the company will continue to operate.

Leicester city mayor Sir Peter Soulsby said: “We welcome Yü Energy to Leicester, along with the opportunities they bring.

“I am delighted that they have chosen to be based here as they expand their sales team.

“Their decision highlights that Leicester is a great place to do business and offers excellent prospects for ambitious companies that want to grow.”

Yü chief executive Bobby Kalar said “This is great news for both Yü Energy and Leicester.

“We chose Leicester for our new office as we believe it is the ideal location to help our business continue to grow and thrive. It provides access to a talented workforce with the skills to match our ambition.”

The independent energy supplier floated on the London Stock Exchange two years ago to fund its expansion plans.

The listing raised £10 million.

It was launched to set itself above the so-called big six energy suppliers and is based in new £2 million offices at Nottingham Business Park, near Junction 26 of the M1.
